Burnout is a very real thing and is very common.

It is important to note that burnout affects each person differently so the signs and symptoms may vary. Other days may be filled with feels of stress and loss of optimism. Common stress symptoms such as anxiety, fatigue, forgetfulness, headaches, an inability to focus or sleep rule your day.

In addition, you may find yourself avoiding social interaction or decision-making at times. Your business activity is such that your stress levels are the point where you are experiencing severe stress on a highly frequent basis. In response, you experience apathy, aggression, and feel pressured or somewhat out of control. You are struggling with maintaining balance with self-care to combat tiredness and constantly resist urges of social escape and or excessive eating.

Running a small business or working from home, when done correctly, can be a great way to balance the demands of work and your personal life. Now that you know what burnout can do, implementing essential daily self-care principles will help you overcome daily overwhelm and beat burnout. Although it is not a one-size-fits-all solution, here are some self-care principles to recover from burnout:

  • Identify the stressors – Zero in on what factors you can control. Make at least one change to make the situation better.
  • Create boundaries – Understand your relationship with work and establish clear boundaries between work and home.
  • Practice Self-care – do things that restore you and offset the stress you are experiencing, i.e. take a vacation or extended periods of time away from work.
  • Consume a healthy diet – Feed your body healthy foods that will enable you to deal with stressors and adapt to stress and stay hydrated.
  • Seek help – A professional will help untangle everything that may be going on in your life.
