Burnout is a very real thing and is very common.
It is a result of chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. Often you will feel a depletion of energy, increased mental distance, or negativity related to your job and reduced productivity. This feeling can also spill over to your personal life and make you feel exhausted or unmotivated to deal with things outside of work. Burnout cannot occur without stress, but you can have stress without burnout. Burnout and stress may feel the same at times, however, burnout is the result of stress that has built up over time. Burnout is constant. For example, if you are experiencing burnout, you will not have days of productivity and joy in between tough days. You will experience a constant feeling of numbness and frustration.
To recognize burnout, it is helpful to check in with yourself regarding your mood and physical symptoms periodically. Burnout in your business can take time (even months) to recover from. Yet, realizing how you got here will help you prevent this in the future.

- Identify the stressors – Zero in on what factors you can control. Make at least one change to make the situation better.

- Practice Self-care – do things that restore you and offset the stress you are experiencing, i.e. take a vacation or extended periods of time away from work.

- Seek help – A professional will help untangle everything that may be going on in your life.
